What is the Open Register?

The Open Register is an extract of the Electoral Register that is not used for elections. It is a statutory requirement that we publish an Open Register every year and this is normally on 1st December.

The Open Register can be bought by any person, company or organisation at any time. Examples of users of the Open Register include insurance companies, research and marketing companies, charities, and students. The data contained on this register that is purchased must be processed in line with data-protection legislation.

It is your choice whether or not you are included on the Open Register. If you do not want to be on the Open Register then mark the 'Opt Out' box when filling in your registration form or applying online. If you chose to be on the Open Register then your name and address will be visible when it is published. Opting out of this register does not affect your right to vote.

How do I check?

If you are unsure whether or not you are on the Open Register then please email us to ask ensuring you include your name, address, and postcode.
