Thank you for registering your petition regarding the provision of a splash park in Aylesbury. You will be aware that 5 people signed the petition and the reply set out below is the Council’s response.
The Aylesbury Town Centre Plan recognises that the town needs to continually improve to attract visitors and ensure that it keeps up to date with changing expectations particularly given the increase in use of multi-channel shopping and the demand for more leisure opportunities to complement the shopping offer.
For this reason, the Plan sets out a Vision for the town and a
detailed list of actions – from small to large which we are
making good progress on delivering.
A splash pool is not included because:
• Splash pools are normally only open for a limited season and we are generally looking to provide facilities which have all year round appeal
• Costs – either new funding for a splash pool would need to be found or budget set aside for one of the agreed actions would need to be reduced or stopped
• There are significant costs and issues related to the health and safety of operating facilities with water and this is not an additional responsibility AVDC would be willing to assume.
