That the current grant of £10,000 paid to the Trustees of Aylesbury Multicultural Community Centre be maintained and approved. To be paid in two equal instalments in May 2019 and September 2019.
Aylesbury Multi-cultural Community Centre is let on a 25 year lease from AVDC to the trustees of the centre. It is an important community asset for the people of Aylesbury.
Its objectives are:
· To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Aylesbury and the neighbourhood together defined by Aylesbury Vale, without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or political, religious or other opinions, by associating together the said inhabitants and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.
· To establish, or secure the establishment of, a Community Centre and to maintain and manage the same in furtherance of the objectives
The grant funding from AVDC is an important element of the centre’s finances, which is also supported by other organisations and funding streams.
Officers have consulted with Councillor Paul Irwin who agreed that maintaining the current level of grant funding will give the management committee clarity and certainty with regard to grant funding for the next year and the opportunity to progress their development plan.
A reduction in the grant from current levels are likely to cause the organisation to fold, and so this option has been rejected. Should the organisation fold, the management of the building and any liabilities would revert to AVDC.
